Galeri Nev İstanbul, opens it 2012-2013 season with Mübin Orhon exhibition
Born in 1924 in Istanbul, Mübin Orhon travelled to Paris 1948 to pursue his doctorate studies in Economy, where he was strucked by the liberal Parisian art milieu and eventually started painting. Having attended drawing lessons at the Académie de la Grand Chaumière, Orhon made his name with the admission of his two works to the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles in 1953 and 1955.
The geometric abstactions that predominated his painting has given way to a style where a Tachist emphasis came into prominence in years. When returned to Turkey for his military service, opened his first exhibiton at Melda Kaptana Gallery, in 1967 and subsequently went back to Paris.
Galeri Nev Istanbul, who has exhibited the artists works for the first time twenty years ago, in 1992; will be presenting the gouches of Orhon that are produced after the second half of 1970’s at the fifth solo show of the artist in the gallery. These abstract scenery which offer a wide monochromic color range may be comprehended as abstactions of the windows that were seen from the artists studio on Boulevard Raspail; whereas they best be interpreted as works with which Orhon has attained his deepest and most profound compositions at his art in full maturity; owing to the mystical and serene Sufist philosophy he turned to.
